Amelia Island Vintage Grand Prix

March 17-20, 2016 - SRE drivers Larry Huang and Scott Turner kicked off the 2016 racing season at the inaugural Amelia Island Vintage Grand Prix.  The race marked the return of racing to the Fernandian Beach Municipal Airport which was an active venue through most of the '60s and 70's.  Weather played a role all weekend with showers and storms in the forecast throughout the event.  Fortunately, the weather held off for most of the sessions.  Larry Huang, driving his Lola T-212 for the first time since the middle of last season set a very quick pace in Group 7.  Starting from the pole in the first feature race, Larry led the field to take the win by just under one second.  After leading most of Sunday's secong feature race, fading brakes cost Larry another win by under half a second!

There were no less than eight Mustang GT-350's entered in Group 6 giving Scott Turner the opportunity to race against some very competitive cars.  Throughout the weekend, Scott battled at the front of the group finishing in second place finish among the GT-350's in the first feature race.  In Sunday's feature race Scott was again running a stong second place with a few laps to go when, while overtaking a back marker, Scott clipped the hay bale chicane.  Although the damage was minimal, Scott's race was done.

Savannah Race Engineering's next outing will be the weekend of April 21-24 at Road Atlanta for the Mitty.  Drivers Larry Huang and Jose Cortes will both be competing.
