SRE at the Sebring Historics

December 6, 2015 - Savannah Race Engineering drivers Larry Huang, Jose Cortes and Stuart Impey, son-in-law of Larry Huang, took to the famous 3.74 mile Sebring International Raceway for the HSR season finale. The event included the normal sprint races along with a 4 hour enduro which Jose and Stuart co-drove the Caterham SP300R in.  Wet weather plagued Friday's qualifying sessions with Jose showing excellent patience and control in Q2.

Saturday's weather was considerably improved over Friday and saw both Larry and Jose qualify strongly.  Larry ran a strong 3rd in race one Saturday afternoon and Jose's race was cut short when rain once again made racing on slicks too risky.

Sunday's feature race was a 4 hour enduro in which Jose and Stuart were to share the driving responsibilities.  Staring 5th in the 30 car field, Jose made a great start and settled into a comfortable pace maintaining his starting position.  An early full course yellow meant a quick fuel stop and driver change with Stuart taking over for the remainder of the first hour.  Consistent and fast lap times, as well as efficient pit stops by the SRE crew, had the team in a very strong 5th position as the two hour mark approached.  Unfortunately, two laps prior to a scheduled tire change, an appearant puncure caused Jose to lose control of the car in turn 4 and make contact with the barrier.  It was an unfortunate end to a very strong drive by both Jose and Stuart.

As the 2015 season comes to a close, we would like to thank our customers, crew and followers for their support, their efforts and their committment to the success of Savannah Race Engineering.
