VIR WISCO Grand Prix

May 29, 2016 - It was an all podium weekend for the SRE team at the beautiful and challenging Virginia International Raceway this past Memorial Day Weekend.  Larry Huang claimed the overall prototype enduro win on Saturday and both Larry and Jose Cortes scored second place finishes in their respective sprint races.

On Friday, the focus for Larry was on car set up and both he and crew chief Wayne Brown quickly found a good balance.  Lap times steadily improved and by day's end, Larry was the quickest in group.  A "trial" shock adjustment prior to Saturday morning's sprint race negatively impacted the handling but an agressive drive by Larry netted a second place finish.  After a quick reset of the shock settings, Larry jumped to an early lead in the Saturday afternoon enduro and once all the competitors completed their mandatory pit stops, Larry maintained a comfortable lead for the remainder of the race.

Jose's weekend was focued on learning the circuit as it was his first time racing at VIR.  The weekend was nearly flawless as he steadily improved his lap times with each session.  Patience combined with a steady drive earned Jose and crew cheif Henry Bergmann a second place finish in the Group 7 sprint race.  In Satruday's enduro, excessive rubber build up on the tires created a severe vibration which resulted in an unscheduled early pit stop,   Late in the race, the number 22 Caterham was hit by another car but fortunately the damage was minimal and Jose was able to complete the race.

It was a very successful weekend for the SRE team!  Our next outing will be in September at the HSR Fall Classic at Road Atlanta.
